NAKED WINDOWS

LOUD & PROUD successful

From August 27th till September 5th there were bands in Holland from Germany, Norway, Iceland, France and Poland. Six young European bands came to Rotterdam to exchange ideas, make music together and perform.

Saturday the 28th of August the exchange started with performances from Alienation (FR), Fucking in Champagne (DE), Mitss & Kapthijn (NL), Of Monsters & Men (IS) at the Westerpop festival in Delft. The Polish band Shiny Beats put an end to the day with their gig, even though it rained their performance kept the audience dancing.

The next day the Shiny Beats, Of Monsters & Men and Mitss & Kapthijn performed at the Stadspodium in Rotterdam.

After an intense jamsession new bands were made, consisting of members of different nationalities. The mixed bands wrote a new song, afterwards the songs were recorded in the studio of the Zadkine Popacademie. Making new songs was a big success, you can also listen to the new songs on this website under: media.

Thursday the 2nd of September they played a gig in Exit in Rotterdam. All the bands gave away an excellent performance.

Friday the 3rd of September Stage Europe Network was in the Koornbeurs in Delft. The diverse line up was very much appreciated by the audience.

Saturday was the last day of this week full of creativity. To end this week in a special way the bands did a Drive-By Concert in an old schoolbus. It took place nearby the ‘Along the Trax’ festival at the Beuk in Barendrecht. World service from Norway also did an exciting performance on the roof of the venue. Soon you can check the video’s of the concerts in the schoolbus on this website under: media.

This great week gave the young musicians an international experience and a great opportunity to perform abroad.

CitySound

How do you hear the city?

When I’m walking through a street filled with traffic, or when I’m sitting in the subway or maybe even when I’m just drinking a cup of coffee in a little café somewhere in a little street, I observe everything around me. Especially people. Where are they going? Where do they come from? I like to ask myself those kind of questions. Then, I went to CitySound. A project that took place in Berlin, a city that was unfamiliar to me. Trough this program, I’ve really learned to think with my ears. They taught us how to see which sounds are important to describe a place. To do that you have to live the place. You have to pretend you are one of those people I’ve watched. If they go shopping, you go shopping. If they eat, you eat. And then you start to ask yourself questions again. What do you hear when you are drinking a cup of coffee in a little café somewhere in a little street? And which of these sounds are typical for the place, which are not that important and can easily be left out? And can you hear the sounds through other perspectives? These ten days, I’ve thought more about sounds then I ever did. Apart from that, we’ve learned how to work with those sounds on the computer, and got to know Berlin in a way that you wouldn’t ever had the chance to get to know as a tourist.
It was a great experience.
